BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide derived from a protective protein found in human gastric juice. It is one of the most extensively researched peptides in preclinical models, with over 100 published studies demonstrating tissue-healing properties across tendons, ligaments, muscles, the gastrointestinal tract, and the nervous system. Despite robust animal data, no completed human clinical trials exist as of 2024.

Mechanism of Action

Pentadecapeptide derived from human gastric juice. Promotes angiogenesis via VEGF upregulation, accelerates tendon and ligament healing, modulates nitric oxide signaling, and protects endothelial cells. Demonstrates systemic healing properties across multiple tissue types.

Clinical Research Status

No completed human clinical trials. Extensive preclinical data across 100+ published studies in animal models. Currently being investigated by companies including Stabilitech Biopharma (oral formulation).

Key Published Findings

Demonstrated accelerated healing in rat models of Achilles tendon transection, medial collateral ligament rupture, and muscle crush injuries. Shown to promote angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation) through upregulation of VEGF and its receptor. Exhibits cytoprotective effects against NSAID-induced gastric damage in multiple studies.

Safety Profile

No significant toxicity reported in animal studies at standard research doses. No LD50 has been established (no lethal dose found). Remarkably wide safety margin in preclinical testing. Long-term human safety data does not exist.

Drug Interactions & Contraindications

May interact with dopaminergic and serotonergic systems. Shown to counteract the effects of dopamine agonists and antagonists in animal models. Potential interactions with medications affecting the nitric oxide system. Caution advised when combining with other growth-promoting compounds.

Comparison to Related Compounds

Often compared to and stacked with TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4). BPC-157 tends to be more localized in its healing effects while TB-500 is more systemic. Unlike most peptides, BPC-157 is stable at gastric pH, enabling oral administration without significant degradation.

Community Observations

Widely used in the biohacking and athletic recovery community. Anecdotal reports consistently describe accelerated recovery from soft tissue injuries. Some users report improved gut function and reduced inflammation. Injection site reactions are the most commonly reported side effect.
